How should I measure my dog to get the correct size? Can't I just measure their old collar?

First, click the sizing link on the collars page to see our preferred methods or click here to view a video demonstration. In addition to those methods, here are a few additional tips:

  1. Measuring your dog’s current collar is not always an accurate way to get the correct measurement because collars that use buckles often overlap to varying degrees. As mentioned on the collars page, we would first recommend using a piece of string to measure the circumference of their neck, and then measuring the string with a tape measure or ruler. Short of that, see option 3 - the worst-case scenario. Remember that a dog's neck is a mass of muscle (unlike our necks (unless you are the Governor of California)), so dogs are typically comfortable with collars that are snug. We don't know about Governors.
  2. If your dog will not sit still for a nice, serene measuring session, try cuddling them firmly but gently around the neck and whisper stories of mountains of treats, rivers of clean water, and a sky filled with toys, ripe for the picking. Or, maybe offer them some steak. We have also found that some dogs are partial to a nice shiny red ribbon or similar pretty wrapping rather than string - who knew dogs could be so fashion-conscious. And just for the record, tazlab™ does not advocate the harming of any animal in any way, shape, or form (in fact, now that you mention it, we apply the same rule to humans). Please read this suggestion as a feeble attempt at humor, not as ill-willed guidance. Thank you - the law staff.
  3. Worst-case scenario: measure your dog’s neck with a piece of string (or shiny ribbon - see suggestion 2) and mail it to us.

We will be glad to utilize the finer points (or inch marks) of a tape measure for any of our customers.

Can I see how the collar works?

Sure, take a look at Tasman demonstrating and escape in this video.

ˆtopˆ

How do I keep control of my dog if I need to grab the dog collar when he is off leash?

This takes a little getting used to, but we recommend grabbing their collar and using the old pull and twist. The half-twist takes up the slack that is inherently necessary for the collar to work. Do not worry about the elastic, as it is designed to work under these controlled loads. (See monofilament elastic on our collar features and specs page.)

ˆtopˆ

What if I order the wrong size?

The first thing you should do is smile, have a seat in a comfortable chair, and relax, as you have the total assurance that tazlab™ will live up to your expectations for quality service. If you get a size that is too small or too big just give us a call and we will exchange it for you. Please, try not to use it to pull you car out of the mud before you decide that it is the wrong size, but if you do, at least take a photo or two for our Research and Development department as they are keenly interested in this sort of thing.

How do I make my slide-tech leash slide when I want it to?

The slide-tech leash is designed to slide with some simple know-how, only when you want it to. To slide the leash, grasp the buckle and pull towards you to elongate the lead, or pull away from you to shorten. Once you have set the length, hold the leash at the very middle of the end to keep it from sliding further. We've found that it is very handy, and just takes a little toying with to get the hang of it. Enjoy all the convenient configurations.

ˆtopˆ

How do I put the safety dog collar on my dog if there is no buckle?

The tazlab™ safe-t-stretch collar was designed without a buckle of any kind. It stretches so that it will slide over your dog’s head and rest snugly around their neck. Remember, a tazlab™ collar fits properly when it will not pull off your dog’s neck when it is clipped with a lead.

ˆtopˆ

Will the collar still come off if it is attached to a leash?

See the previous answer. We do tend to repeat ourselves on this issue.

ˆtopˆ

What’s your favorite color?

This is for you to decide, and hopefully we have made a collar in that color.

ˆtopˆ

Is Tasman single?

Tasman is quite single, as he makes sure to make clear to his lady-friends. although he has several interests, they all seem to be long distance relationships. And we all know how hard it is to maintain those.

ˆtopˆ

Why is the sky blue?

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. The air affects little of the red, orange and yellow light however; the gas molecules absorb much of the shorter wavelength light. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.

ˆtopˆ

Is it ok for me to get my dog a nylon collar in every color?

Well, why not - everyone’s doing it. That is why we made eight great colors for every great day of the week. (Again, per our law staff, tazlab does not endorse the belief that there are greater or fewer days in a week than the number of days you think there are. But, in case we are now in hot water for raising the question, we also renounce all knowledge of said days, said questions, and anything else said. We make dog products, not decisions on the universe (but don't try to convince Tasman of that).)

ˆtopˆ

Will you be expanding your product line?

We are planning to release several new products in the coming new year. However, they are double top secret, super hush hush. No telling what else Taz will come up with - that dog is a barrel full of great ideas.

ˆtopˆ

Does Tazlab make smaller and larger safety dog collars?

Our Small collar line is now available in sizes from 8"-13". They are smaller in every imaginable way and still made completely custom for Tazlab. We have even picked up quite a cat following. We have grand aspirations on tackling a larger safety line to keep our Great Pyrenees and Bull Mastiff friends in the loop, however all that Rome 24 hour period business. If you have a dog that falls outside of our current line, please let us know your interest in having a safer dog collar by emailing us at bark@tazlab.com.

ˆtopˆ

When will you have women’s shirts?

"Not soon enough!" is what we are hearing from the ladies. However, many women still like wearing the American Apparel t-shirts with the tazlab logo even if they are not specifically cut for ladies. Soon, soon, soon.

ˆtopˆ

Is Tasman willing and able to do “acting engagements”?

Why yes he is! For more info, a bio, a resume, and a list of what he can do, please contact us at bark@tazlab.com. He's actually been in a short film or two, which makes him ever so popular at Oscar parties (or so he tells us). He prefers to continue to build his "street cred" with small independent films, but he is open to a lunch meeting with the higher-ups to discuss the possibilities of playing compelling characters in storylines from some of the more mainstream big production houses (if the treats are right). If you are reading this and your name is George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, or Quentin Tarantino, Taz says he loves your work and would love to put his head together with you sometime to see if there is a way to lay to rest this whole stigma that dogs in talking roles are overdone.

ˆtopˆ

How old is Tasman?

Tasman will be six years old on March 1, 2007.

ˆtopˆ

How old is Lucy?

Lucy will be five on September 15, 2006.

ˆtopˆ

Why are you called tazlab™?

The name tazlab™ was Chris’s idea. He merged together two facts: 1) we wanted to create a company that placed innovation as an ideal, and 2) to remember that it really began with our dogs. Our dog is named Tasman, and his dog Lucy is a Lab. Get it, add the Z for effect and you have TAZ-LAB. We do like how official it sounds.

ˆtopˆ

Can I get my nylon dog collar wet?

Absolutely. There is no problem with getting your tazlab collar wet. Just be sure to dry it off before giving it back to your dog.

ˆtopˆ

How do I wash my collar? How do I wash my leash?

Should the need arise, we recommend washing them by hand with warm water and a gentle soap. We've not tried dry cleaning yet, but I am sure our Research and Development team is all over testing that idea (but don't try it at home).

ˆtopˆ

If I wanted to place a custom order in colors that I choose, is that possible? Is there a minimum order for that sort of thing?

There are minimum quantities for custom colors, but they will still look really cool. Please get in touch with us and we will find out how we can help you out.

ˆtopˆ

Please let us know if you were looking for an item that we do not yet carry. We will be keeping track and putting into production the most sought after products, sizes and colors per your desires!! Send us your thoughts at bark@tazlab.com.
